Your natal chart explores all of the planetary positions at the exact moment of your birth and their placements in your chart by sign, house and aspects:
The Planets:
Sun = your basic identity
Moon = your emotional nature
Mercury = how your mind works & how you communicate
Venus = your values & tastes, and your requirements for love & affection
Mars = your motivation & drive
Jupiter = your talents & the opportunities for fulfilling those talents
Saturn = how you tackle responsibilities & obstacles in your life
Uranus = how you express your independence & originality
Neptune = your ideals, imagination, & spirituality
Pluto = cycles of growth, change, & transformation
The Houses:
Each Astrology chart is divided into 12 sections called "Houses." Each house rules a different area of your life, and therefore if any of the planets occupy a specific house, they add extra influence and energy to the elements of your life associated with that house. In addition, the sign found on each house cusp (the dividing line between the houses) provides a distinct "flavor" to that area of your life.
House 1 = your basic personality and identity
(House 1 is also known as the "Ascendant" or "Rising Sign.")
House 2 = your finances and material resources
House 3 = communication; short journeys; early education; siblings
House 4 = your home environment; your mother
House 5 = children; love affairs; entertainment; creativity
House 6 = productivity & work habits; health issues
House 7 = partnerships, both personal (such as marriage), and in business
House 8 = metaphysical & psychological transformations; sexuality; inheritances
House 9 = higher education; foreign travel; religious/philosophical beliefs
House 10 = your career; your achievements; fame/recognition; your father
House 11 = friends, groups, and associations
House 12 = secrets; karmic issues; your subconscious patterns & habits
The Aspects:
Your Astrological interpretation also takes into consideration the planetary "aspects" -- in other words, are two planets interacting with each other in your chart, and is this interaction likely to be beneficial or challenging?
The possible combinations of aspects are too numerous to mention here, but your individual natal report will explain any major aspects that occur in your chart.
YOUR PROGRESSED CHART
Your birth chart will always be your basic blueprint for this lifetime; however, your Astrological influences do change from year to year. Just as you evolved from infancy through childhood, adolescence, and various stages of adulthood, your natal chart also evolves from year to year, and therefore your Astrological influences perpetually shift over time. Who you are today may be different in a variety of significant ways from who you were five years ago, ten years ago, and so on. Through your progressed chart (the chart based on the current year), you can explore any new influences coming into your life and prepare for them.
While your natal chart reveals your basic traits, your progressed chart shows who you are becoming. In other words, how will your tastes and priorities change? Which issues will be top priority in your current phase: Family? Travel? Personal growth? How will new Astrological phases affect your relationships? Will you be meeting new people? Is this a time for career changes, and/or making more money?
Your progressed chart can tell you all of this and more. For example:
* Why is it that during some years, you feel very social and want to go out every week, yet in other years, you become more of a homebody?
* Why might you suddenly feel like dressing differently and changing your hairstyle during certain phases?
* Why is it that you feel completely content in a job you like for seven years, then suddenly one day you can't stand this job anymore and you want to completely change careers?
* If you're in a long-term relationship, have you noticed that there are times when you experience long periods of lasting harmony, and other times when you just can't stop bickering and fighting?
With this report, you can explore the evolving influences and trends that will be affecting your life in the near future. By comparing the information in this report with the information in your natal report, you can see how the various planetary influences have changed in the current phase of your life. Many of the planets in your birth chart will have evolved into a new sign and/or a new house, and are now making different connections (aspects) with the other planets in the chart. Your progressed chart shows you what's coming up, and when and how things will change.
A progressed chart is calculated by "progressing" your birth chart forward in time by one day for each year of your life. For instance, if you were born on July 12, 1965, at the age of ten, your progressed chart would be based on the planetary positions of July 22, 1965, and at age 20, this chart would be based on the planetary positions for August 1st, 1965, and so on. Some of the planets change phase more quickly in your progressed chart (the Moon enters a new sign approximately every 2-1/2 years, for example), while the outer planets such as Pluto will move very little during your entire lifetime.
While your birth chart illustrates your basic tendencies, your progressed chart reveals the new characteristics you are in the process of developing now. To illustrate, here are some examples taken from my own progressed chart from 2004:
When I was born, I had four planets in fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), and I was indeed much more outgoing, impulsive, spontaneous, action-oriented, sometimes even pushy! Now, I have five progressed planets in water signs, and I have become much quieter and more introspective. I think twice now before I speak instead of just blurting things out, and I take more time to properly evaluate and plan before starting something new. I also started relying more heavily on intuition rather than logic in making key decisions. This represents a slow, ongoing evolutionary process in my life.
Here are some actual statements taken from this progressed report, all of which very accurately reflect what was going on in my life at that time:
* "There are a lot of changes taking place in your life now" (yes, I did go through major transformations in many areas of my life during this phase)
* "You are uncomfortable with authority figures; you want to be your own boss" (totally true; I feel a strong need to pursue my own vision and can no longer tolerate working for anyone else)
* "Writing is a major priority right now" (hey, I started publishing a magazine during this phase!)
* "You have more of a live-and-let-live attitude" (true -- I used to love debating with people, but now I just can't be bothered arguing anymore when someone has a different opinion than mine)
* Venus progressed into Cancer makes you "shyer in romance" (true: when my progressed Venus was in Gemini, I was very outgoing and much more of a flirt, but now I actually feel awkward flirting)
* However, "Venus in Cancer is actually a better phase for dating, because you are more likely to meet a quality partner, someone with depth and substance" (that's good news!)
* "You take good care of your health" (big difference -- I used to be oblivious to health matters, lived on junk food, and so on. Now, with my progressed Mars in Virgo, I eat healthy, take vitamins, exercise regularly, meditate, and so on)
* "Groups and friends look to you for guidance -- you could take on some major responsibilities thereby" (this is true -- even though I am not looking for this and in fact have become much less talkative in public situations, people still seek out my opinions. It's almost strange how often this happens)
* "You could be consumed by an ideal, a passion that could put you through many radical changes" (this is exactly what happened -- I became so passionate about publishing a magazine and promoting the humanitarian causes on this website that I radically changed my life in order to devote myself to these projects. This work feels deeply meaningful to me, whereas many of my old interests no longer do)
